Hi ho, hi ho, off to camp she goes

Yesterday we took our little girl to camp.  Not so little any more, she is nine, but she's still our baby!  She has been so excited for weeks, and even talked her best friend into going with her.  Her friend was a bit nervous all week, but the funniest thing happened when we were there - Emma's friend was excited, running around to see everything, and Emma was quiet and reserved and sad.  She called today, though, and she was fine.  She didn't even want to stay on the phone with me!   She wants to get baptized while she is there, tomorrow really.  The camp is a really good one, not too big, close to Nana and Papa's house, and familiar people for her.  The camp manager is my parents' preacher - he also married Chris and me!  I worked at the camp for two summers; that's where we met Wink  If my baby is going to camp, this is the one I feel most comfortable with.
    I still miss her.

    I'm on vacation!!

I am on vacation this week!!  I think we will have a nice time.  Emma is going to VBS with her best friend this week in the evenings, and we have several things planned during the week for the days.  Not today, though!  Today is rest day .  We all need one of those days, don't we? Next week Emma will be at camp all week, so this week is a nice treat for us.

Yesterday the three of us went to see Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix at the theatre.  It was a good movie, even if they change big parts of it.  I know it has to be done for movie purposes, but it still bugs me!  I can't wait for the new book to come out.  They still did a pretty good job with this movie.  I asked Emma her favourite part, and she said "Seeing Hagrid."  Her least favourite?  "Seeing Voldemort!"  So much for a discussion of the finer points of the movie...  Later on, though, she did come out with "I can't believe Sirius is dead!"  There is always hope for the last book, though.... As Luna said at the end, "Things we've lost have a way of turning up in the end, often when we least expect it."

Ouch.  My back hurts! Feels like I've strained a muscle in my shoulder blade.  Grr.

I went to the ER this week!  First time we've seen our new hospital.  It seems like a very nice hospital!  I hurt my eye Monday night, turns out I scratched it badly or cut it or something like that - corneal abrasion is what the discharge papers said.  The only reason I went was because the white of my eye was swollen out around the iris, and it HURT.  Bad.  Within 5 minutes of simply rubbing my eye I couldn't even open it.  The ER doc gave me some eye drops that burned like crazy but really did the trick!  I followed up with an eye dr the next day and she said it was on track for healing nicely. Today I could wear my contacts again!

Wednesday night was exciting - not  "hooray fun" exciting, but "no way am I sleeping" exciting - we came home from our holiday festivities at my parents' house and maybe 10 minutes later the house across the street was fully engulfed in flames!  Three fire trucks, several police cars, and other official vehicles were out there, and the street was closed off at both ends.  Around 1 am it was finally out, but the house was a total loss.  Unfortunately, I know nothing about who lived there, where they are staying, or what they will do.

Some of you know I signed with a temp agency to fill in between job interviews and things.  Turns out I've had longish assignments each time.  Right now I am at a big boat manufacturer.  Their corporate headquarters and two plants are in Knoxville, and another plant is in a nearby town.  I am at that facility.  Turns out they are "big time" boats.  I was sent there to answer phones while the receptionist filled in for the Sales Office administrator who is on maternity leave.  After a week we switched, and now I am in the sales office.  I like it SO much better!  I really enjoy this job.  The weird thing is, the one on maternity leave is only a couple years older than me, we went to the same school, and now she is married to my freshman English teacher.  It is so creepy seeing pictures of him with the family all over the office!
