February 24 Cake in my shoe!Yes, that about sums up yesterday. I had cake in my shoe! My last bite of a sweet treat fell off my fork, bounced off my leg, and into my shoe where it promptly squished into my tights as I moved to get it out. Anyway, since Mondays are rather slow days at work in general, I brought my laptop to get some other work done. That’s what I tell myself, anyway ;). Seems like every time I got started, though, I’d get paged. Which is really a good thing – it’s the timing that was annoying. Finally around 230 I was paged by my boss, who needed me to go to another hospital to help with something. It’s part of the hospital I am at regularly, not very far away, and it was a change of scenery! By the time I got that taken care of, stopped by our office (which is in between the two) to get some paperwork for today, it was too close to time to go home to justify going back to the main hospital. I stopped at my husband’s office to visit him. He joined the gym I go to and we were going to go work out together when he got off work “after hsi 45 min conference call.” I was expecting him to be finished around 6, so I went to Target to do a bit of shopping while waiting. First I stopped at Goody’s, which is going out of business. (If you don’t have a Goody’s in your area, it’s a clothing store that is based here in Knoxville. When I worked for them they had over 300 stores all over the southeast. They were managed into the ground the past few years.) I found a pair of jeans for myself that i desperately needed, and a cute top for Emma. Nothing else, really. Then Target. I started out in the books and movies, finding a birthday present for my friend’s baby who turns 2 this week. Then I meandered around the store, enjoying myself, chatting with employees. They are so friendly at this store! I found a case for my iPod that has a belt clip on clearance – now I can use it at the gym easier! Just clip it right to my pants. I hate the arm bands, so I was thrilled to find this one. I looked at workout clothes for my husband, and decided to let him join me and try on first since the women’s Champion runs a bit small. Didn’t want to chance it with the men’s version. I resisted a slew of notebooks and office products on clearance, which is a minor miracle in itself. I also found something else for the baby, so I put the books back. I’m sure he had the books already, anyway. Suddenly I found myself in women’s clothes. I have had a hard time lately with my shirts not fitting. I hate that feeling. So, I got three new shirts for work. One I’m wearing today, a pretty black and white wrap shirt with a tie belt. It was only $14.99, too! And not even on clearance! The other two were on clearance, though, but I usually don’t buy for myself unless it’s on the 75% off rack. I must stop doing that. I also got a super-soft brown long-sleeved wrap shirt, and a green shirt that is much different than I’d usually wear. Well, ok, all three are, but I’m happy with them. I got the groceries we needed, still waiting for my husband to get out of his meeting and join me. At 615 I sent him a text message – are you done YET?? No response. At 630 I called him – voice mail. Finally, at 700, I gave up and went to check out. There was no way I was going to the gym that late. I still had to pick up Emma from the babysitter’s house and make dinner! He called as I was checking out and had just finished. I told him I was going home and he could go to the gym by himself if he wanted. We decided to try again Friday. He picked up dinner as I was getting Emma. Got her in bed, watched House. Man I love that show! Then he watched 24. The first season, I really liked that show. Then I started working two nights a week, and missed a couple whole seasons. Now I just don’t really care about it. I have noticed, though, that it’s getting very predictable. As soon as I saw them together I knew that guy was going to kill the blond computer chick. I also can see Jack and the FBI agent getting together – she ended up crying in his arms. Yeah, it is so happening between them. I finally gave up and went to bed. Oh – tried on my jeans this morning. They fit perfectly, then the zipper broke and I was stuck in them. I called a local seamstress this morning to see about replacing the zipper. It’s only $7, and she said she’s already done 5 pairs of jeans in the past week from Goody’s with the same problem. Still cheaper than buying regular priced jeans, though! February 19 Late-week catch upWow. It’s Thursday again already! Again, quite a week this has been. Last Saturday, Valentine’s Day, we got a new washer since ours was very near the end of its 25 year life. Funny the things that excite me know, you know? We decided not to go out that night for V-day dinner since we were so worn out and didn’t even feel like showering and postponed dinner until Sunday night. Sunday was the usual church, lunch, house stuff. Then dinner that evening, then Emma spent the night with her Nana and Papa. Monday Mom brought her to our house to work in her room – time to get it all clean without distractions, arguing, or anything. And wow did it work! We were amazed when we got home to see her room. Mom had a delicious pot of chicken and dumplings on the stove for dinner, too. They were sooo good. Emma wasn’t feeling well, though. Tuesday she called me from school, wanting to go home. I was on my way to the doctor myself, and Chris couldn’t leave work so she stayed the rest of the day. She stayed home from Girl Scouts, though, and when I returned she had a fever. Yesterday I stayed home with her but she went to school today. That lasted until 9:00 – she called me again, feeling worse than this morning. Thank goodness Mom could get her today; she is taking her back to our house and later to the doctor. Poor kid is sick, but hasn’t had a fever since that time Tuesday night. I never know quite what to do school-wise when she is sickish but no fever, you know? To school or not to school…. that is the real question. Oh – my doctor’s appointment. Ok, last weekend (the one almost two weeks ago now) my right wrist was pretty sore, but not terrible. Then last Monday night a tendon started popping when I moved it around. It got progressively worse from there. Numbness, tingling, horrible pain. I got a thumb/wrist brace at CVS and that helped some, but not enough. I finally called an orthopedic doctor’s office this Monday, and miraculously got an appointment for Tuesday. Turns out I had de Quervain’s Tendonitis – he said it’s the most painful kind to get (no kidding!) but easily treated – 95% of cases are cured with just one cortisone steroid shot. Boy do those shots hurt! The difference, though, was amazing. I woke up yesterday and I COULD MOVE MY WRIST! It was so nice. It is still tender inside, but I can use it, which is more than I could do Tuesday morning. It affects the tendon that goes from the thumb to the wrist, so everything I would do hurt. I couldn’t even write! I hand-wrote something today at work for the first time since the shot, and I could still feel some popping, but no pain. It will take a few days yet for full healing, but I am thrilled with the difference already. Yesterday Emma missed choir practice – again – because she was so sick. Today I have a meeting instead of class, but some classmates are willing to share their notes and the homework assignment with me thankfully. Saturday is an International Festival at an area Children’s Museum – I hope our troop can still go! I was thinking it was still a couple weeks out until a mom in our troop reminded me last night it was this weekend. Oops! February 02 What my iPod says about me Now this is funny!
