February 28 RIP CorbinEmma's fish Corbin died earlier this week. Saturday night we could tell he was about to, but I had no idea what to do for him. I've heard of giving mashed peas, but couldn't find a pea in the house. Emma was sad, and cried for a few minutes, but then was okay. She still has April, her other beta. Such creative names she gave them: April Tenth 1998 is April's full name (also Emma's birthday) and Corbin's was Corbin Blue (he's blue and she loves High School Musical and all other Corbin Bleu movies and songs). I was tempted to get her another one (why?????) but I didn't. She has enough pets to care for! February 25 Monday MusingsWorld Thinking Day is over! Now on to cookies... they come in this week and cookie booths start this weekend.
After Thinking Day on Saturday, two girls from our troop came home with Emma to play. One she is good friends with, the other one she is not so close with but they all wanted to play. The second one was picked up after about 2 hours, and the first one was going to spend the night with us. About 10:30, though, she really really wanted to go home. I understood, though - it's not like she is over at our house all the time and was used to it; it was a totally new place for her and diffent family dynamic (much smaller). Her mother had also mentioned that it was the first time in over a year she had spent the night away from home. We were all still up and going, and her father came to pick her up. About 20 minutes after that, though, Emma still wasn't asleep and came down the hall crying - she had just remembered that "the other girls" had taken her little wheelbarrow, filled it up with her toys, and made a clubhouse somewhere out in the woods behind our house. So at 11-something I am out roaming the woods with a flashlight, trying to find her things before it rains and ruins them, or someone's dog destroys them. I finally found the stash on the hill behind our neighbors' house - they had Emma's purse, another bag of hers, her Fur Real Friends toys, the entire candy bowl from the kitchen, and other random "stuff." I just carried the entire thing into the kitchen for her to sort out the next morning. We also made it VERY clear to her that the time to tell us about that is MUCH MUCH earlier in the day - as in when it was GOING ON if she couldn't stop them (as she says was the problem but she may have been trying to get in less trouble).
So Sunday we went back to church - we are going to join this one I think. Afterwards I took Emma shoe-shopping. She was in desperate need of new tennis shoes for school. Nice quiet day the rest of the day.
Because of where Chris works, we now get ALL the channels on our DirecTv for FREE! So now we have all the movie channels, sports channels (ick), everything - and no bill! So I spent a bit of time going through the channel guide recording movies I've wanted to see but hadn't yet. We watched Wild Hogs yesterday afternoon. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time!
Tonight Chris is leaving for Nashville, but will be home again tomorrow night.
Friday he took Tucker to the vet for his booster shot/checkup. He is up to 27 lbs and 16 weeks old. She was able to tell that he is also Springer Spaniel along with Pointer, now that he's getting a bit older and showing his traits more. He is definitely springy! He can jump so high from a standing start - it is amazing! He will literally jump into Chris's arms when he gets home from work. He is also tall enough now to reach the kitchen counters when he stands on his hind legs. Really have to watch that, now. February 18 This is funny...My thoughtful daughter gave me a Webkinz for Valentine's Day =)
She loves hers so much, she thought I would have just as much fun as she does! His name is Pan, and he is a horse. His tag says Pinto, but according to a good friend of mine (who knows this stuff very well) he is actually a Pantaloosa. She even was able to tell me what kind of Pantaloosa, but I can't remember. Hence the name Pan. Panti just wasn't right....
Not only did she give me the stuffed animal, but she had to help me set up my Webkinz account (yes at age 29 I have a Webkinz account!) and show me how to take care of him get "Kinz cash" to buy food and furnishings for his house. To do this I have to play games or answer trivia questions. She also checks to make sure I take care of him every day! At least she can log in and take care of him if I forget.
I will say, though, that the incentive seems to be for the kids to answer the educational questions, since they pay out more money. Also there is an incentive to go with the school subject questions instead of the pop culture questions - you have to answer so many of them to get "jobs" for your pets. I've tried them - it's amazing all the things I have FORGOTTEN since I was in school!
She really is at thoughtful girl..... February 15 i love weekends.Hmmm maybe I should change the name of my blog to the Friday Blog! =) It seems like I am doing so much during the week I don't have time to actually write about it.
Girl Scouts is going well. This week another girl joined us, bringing our total back up to 8. I like having this smaller group so much better than the 17 that I had at the beginning of the year, and they are much calmer, easier girls to deal with. Sure, they get all wound up at times, but you can't expect 4th and 5th grade girls to sit still that long after sitting in school all day and not get a bit bouncy. Since Emma had finished the Pet Care badge last week, I had her work on some things for World Thinking Day coming up while I did the badge with the rest of the girls. They finished it, too, so now everyone is even.
Wednesday Emma stayed home from school sick. Mainly it was preventative measures, since she didn't have a fever but her throat was very swollen and sore and her stomach hurt. Strep throat has been going around her class and we really didn't want her to come down with it. I stayed home with her and we had a nice day. We watched Shrek the Third finally, and just relaxed all day.
Yesterday was the big V day. It is a strange holiday. It is supposed to celebrate being in love, but there is so much pressure put on the holiday itself that the love part gets forgotten! Emma gave me a pony Webkinz- ooooooooookay...... and we gave her (guess what) a Webkinz! She loves them, and thought her Mommy should have just as much fun as she does. She is a thoughtful girl really... After work I picked her up from the babysitter's and we met Chris at one of our favourite restaurants downtown. He had a chocolate rose and a card for each one of us at our plates. It was a nice dinner. I noticed the restaurant was full of families together, as opposed to mainly couples. I found that interesting, even though we've celebrated the holiday as a threesome for nine years now.
The puppy is growing quite a bit. Next weekend he goes back to the vet for his second shots and weighing. They will be able to better judge how big he will be at that point. At his first visit at 13 weeks old he was 21 lbs, I'd guess he is at least 25 right now. Although at 5:30 a.m. when his paw is standing on my ear while he licks my face I'm not the best judge of weight - it's all heavy! I think he's getting a nail trim this visit, too. One good thing, though, is I can't oversleep any more. Every time the alarm goes off he is literally in my face, standing on my and licking me to get me up. Growing puppies want their breakfast! February 08 Woohoo it's Friday!Yay the weekend is here again!
I am glad for this week to be over. Not that it's been particularly bad, but it's been tiring! Monday and Tuesday Emma was out of school, Tuesday was Girl Scouts, I placed the cookie order, Wednesday and Thursday Chris was in South Carolina....
Today has been a good day, though. See my other post for what I've been doing today
There are so many options for tomorrow! I really have to go to the Girl Scout office in the morning, and I may take Emma to see the Hannah Montana 3D concert movie. One advantage to living in the same area a major theatre chain is based - they build their showcase theatre convenient to your house! Finally we have access to many movie choices, not just 3 or 4 movies at a time.
The dogs need a bath badly, too. Tucker is smaller and easier to bathe, so he is definitely getting one. Daisy may do with just a good brushing, but it has been a while since she's been thoroughly bathed so I just might do her too. Maybe I'll put them in the tub together.... that should be interesting.
Sunday Emma and I are going back to church. We tried a new one last week and were both very happy there. It is smaller, and very friendly. Wednesday we even had a letter from the pastor! Afterwards all three of us are going to my parents' house for a visit.
Yesterday my father had knee surgery. He has been having trouble with his right leg for a couple years now, not being able to walk very well or use the leg much. One of his brothers has MS and we were afraid he was developing that also. The MRI showed nothing, all the other tests didn't reveal anything, so his doctor sent him to an orthopedic doctor. Sure enough, that was the problem! He had torn his maniscus (sp?) some time, and that was causing his problems. I hope he has a quick recovery. I've been YouTubing!Yes, I know YouTubing isn't a word. Deal with it.
I haven't been loading videos, but watching them. Especially clips from "A Bit of Fry & Laurie" and "Jeeves and Wooster." HILARIOUS!!
If you don't know what I'm talking about, they are Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie (Yes, Dr House) and two of their comedy series that aired in Great Britain. I am definitely looking for the shows on DVD now to see them in their entirety. I always knew Hugh Laurie was very talented and versatile, but the only things I had seen Stephen Fry in were V for Vendetta and Bones (he was Booth's therapist). I didn't even know he was the other half of the team! February 06 RandomIt is a wet, rainy, miserable day. Yesterday was BEAUTIFUL, with temperatures of 70, warm even at night. Today we started out at 60, and it is going to get colder all day and be in the 30s by the time I get off from work at 5. Welcome back, winter.
My husband is on his way to South Carolina this morning; he'll be home tomorrow night and goes back again next week for two nights. So it is up to me to wake up, get Emma ready for school, feed and walk all the animals, and get us out the door. Seems simple enough, but in practice it usually takes both of us to get everyone together in the mornings.
I missed voting in the primaries yesterday. The polls here are open from 8-8, but I have to be at work at 8 a.m. and didn't finish with Girl Scouts until after 8 p.m. There were only two girls there last night, too, for some reason. A new girl that joined last week, and Emma. I was starting the Pet Care badge with them since it was one the girls had chosen the beginning of the year, and they ended up finishing it! With only two girls we could do more though, too. I wish more people had been there, but a lot of sickness has been going around. Emma's school was closed (the whole system actually) on Monday because so many people were out!
I ordered our cookies yesterday - it was my first time doing it so I hope I ordered enough for the booths! I know we can get more if we need it, though. I am so nervous about all that is coming up with Scouts - big things like World Thinking Day and cookie booths. It's not like I am at home a lot to plan out things and make things for the events... I just hope it all goes well. Thankfully Chris has a truck now for cookie pickup and going to the booths, but there is still so much I don't know. |
