    I did it!!

Today was the Susan Komen Race for the Cure.  I did it!!  I walked the entire 5k... and didn't feel like I was going to fall down and die Open-mouthed  I knew a few people who were also doing it today, but I didn't see them there so I ended up walking alone (as alone as you can with thousands of other people).  At the beginning of the race it was announced that this was the largest crowd ever in Knoxville.  Pat Summitt was the honorary race chair and started us off, and the men's basketball team even walked also.  All along the route there were cheerleaders, little girls' dance teams, musicians, singers, entire bands, and just people cheering us along.  It really was something to see everyone coming together.
I took a few pictures there.  I had Emma take one of me that I was going to post, but it didn't make it onto the memory card.  Really!  I didn't delete it, it never was there!
Now I am off for a hot long relaxing bath... every muscle in my body from my neck down is screaming!

    Ten years

Yesterday was our tenth wedding anniversary.  It seems like such a long time until you get there, you know?  We exchanged cards in the morning, before we all had to leave, and I get to pick a date from the hockey schedule included in my card for us to go watch the Ice Bears play!  It is the only sport I enjoy watching Smile and something we'll both enjoy.  I was excited.  I spent the day with my grandmother at the hospital, then came back to town, picked up Emma from her friend's house, and we went out for dinner.  We went to Ruby Tuesday, which I absolutely love.  Chris was disappointed because they had taken his favourite off the menu.  The whole restaurant has changed - the tvs and local memorabilia were gone, but the food is still great.  I had Parmesan Shrimp Pasta and it was sooooooooo good.  The shrimp was perfectly spicy and grilled.  After we came home, we watched the new Transformers movie.   It was much better than I thought it would be, I will admit.  Very much so a guy movie, but it does have some funny lines.
All in all it was a nice anniversary. Not what I had thought of a few years ago when I thought of our tenth anniversary, but those thoughts including me having a full time job Wink  I am very happy with the day I did have, though.

    Grr

Yet another hermit crab has died.  Once again, within the two weeks that Petsmart guarantees their animals.  So, another trip to PS with a dead creature, another exchange.... I am sure they think I am a monster to the poor things!  At least one is still alive.

I got a fish instead this time.

    Dairy Day

Today we visited Sweetwater Valley Farm, a local dairy that specializes in cheese.  We had a fun time, too.  First we looked through their shop and bought some cheeses and had some samples (by the way, fresh sharp cheddar is MUCH stronger than storebought sharp cheddar!).  Then we took the walking tour of the dairy.  It was very interesting!  It is family owned, and they feed their cows (around 700 of them) a specialized mix of food they make up to ensure the cows get all the nutrients they need.  The milking is done electronically, and the cows all have a RFID bracelet that monitors their activity level, eating, and all to make sure they stay happy and healthy.  We got to see some of the milking being done. Today was not a cheesemaking day so we didn't get to see that part of it, but did see a video of the process.  Check out their website!  And if you're in the area it's definitely worth stopping in.

    Game night

Last night Emma and I played some games.  First we played Life.  I had FINALLY beaten the little tyrant Wink (she is ruthless!) I had $980k, she had $925k.  Then we found a $100k bill she had dropped.... She won again.  After that she got out her old candyland game (which totally surprised me) and I won twice.  That ended that.
During the three days she was sick, she fell in love with I Love Lucy, so I suggested my ILL trivia game, which no one had ever played with me.  The little stinker won that game too!!  I knew she'd never know most of the questions, from seeing four episodes, so I asked her the T/F questions or multiple choice.  She's a good guesser!

    Volunteer Fun

I joined Emma's school's PTO again this year.  I wasn't able to attend the first meeting, but I am trying to do what I can to help out.  Today was her school's walk-a-thon, their biggest fundraiser.  I volunteered to help count laps for the kids in Emma's class.  While I was getting dressed to go, Emma called me to bring her some shorts, a tshirt, and tennis shoes.  I let her go to school in a dress! On walk-a-thon day! The dress is adorable, though, knee-lengh, buttons all the way down, khaki with roll-up sleeves and a tie belt... and only $3 at Target... but I digress.
Finding her clothes was no problem, and eventually I found both her tennis shoes in her room.  Then I proceeded to get stopped at every light between here and her school!  I was just a few minutes late...  A mom I know was counting Emma and a few other girls, and she tore off Emma's section for me to count.  Even with leaving the track to change, she did 13 laps around the track.  After the walking the kids were all sent to the grassy center of the track and were played a couple songs to dance to before going back to class.
I turned in her note for missing the past three days of school, and waited in her class to have lunch with her.  She was very quiet at first, not sure why but she seemed a bit down, but by the end of lunch she was cheerier again.
Soon it will be time to pick her up, and Fall Break will officially begin - a whole week without school!  Yay!

    At last

Emma is DEFINITELY feeling better.  She breezed through half her makeup work this afternoon while eating her lunch, and proceeded to try using up all her three days' worth of stored energy!  She got out my exercise mat and book of exercises (I printed a lot from the SparkPeople website and made my own exercise book) and my balance ball and hand weights... and had quite a workout!  She bounced all around the house, talked my ears off...

She is so going back to school tomorrow!
    Open-mouthed

    Sick at home, Day Three

Today is the third day Emma has been home sick from school.  We're going today to get her homework so she won't be so far behind.  She doesn't have a fever, but a bad sore throat, headaches, and dizzy spells.  The dizziness really scares her, poor kid.  She's always had a problem dealing with that.
We're still having a nice time together.  She's not so sick that she's miserable and in bed all day, although she does have really bad spells when she just wants to lie down.  We've read and played games, it's been pretty nice.
Tomorrow is her school's Walk A Thon, their biggest fundraiser for the PTO.  I wonder if she'll be up to participating this year.
