    Voting

A comment on another blog about voting had me thinking about how I vote.  The other one was about voting straight party ticket and why that is the best way.

I disagree, and here is why:

The main reason is that I don't agree 100%, or even 75%, of either main party.  I am way more liberal than most Republicans, but strongly disagree with many Democrat policies.  Mostly I think the government should stay out of a lot of areas - like marriage and reproduction, for one.  I know my views are unpopular, especially in this area of the country, but I think that if two women or two men are in love with each other and want to get married, fine!  What's the big deal?  Honestly, what harm can it do?  And - while I do not believe that abortion is morally right - I think that it should be the mother's decision.  It should not be made for her by total strangers in the capitol.

Also, I want to know that who I am voting for will vote like I want!  I am not naive, I realize that politicians do not always vote how they promise, but you can learn a lot by their voting history.  A politician can officially be for instance a Republican and vote more along traditonal Democratic values.  Or vice versa.

So I will continue to vote by who I determine to be the best person for the job, whatever their party listing may be.

    Another little trip!

We had a fun weekend this past week!  Chris had the opportunity to go to Charlotte NC for some car race, and I have a friend who lives there, so Emma and I went along also!  We left Saturday morning and made the 5 hour drive, checked into our room, then Chris dropped Emma and me off at my friend's house.  Emma went to the movies with my friend's husband and their three daughters (who Em got along with spendidly!) and my friend and I went out to dinner!  We had such a good time and got back to our room so late, just as Chris was calling that he was leaving from the race.

The next morning we went back to my friend's house and visited until 3:30.  I really hated to leave, but Emma had school the next day and Chris and I both had to work.  We had an awesome time, though, and cannot wait to go back again.
